About the show: After World War II, world-famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright faced a new challenge: how to build housing efficiently and affordably to meet the growing demands of a changing world.

Wright envisioned a modular and standardized system of concrete blocks that clients could, in theory, use to build their own homes according to his designs. These homes were called Usonian Automatics. Only seven of them were ever built. The Kalil House at the Currier is the only Usonian Automatic open to the public today.

The story of the Kalil House offers a thought-provoking, alternative vision of American housing and explores architectural principles that could still shape a brighter future.

In How to Build a Usonian Automatic, archival materials, rare architectural drawings, and 3-D modeling bring to life Frank Lloyd Wright's vision, innovation, and legacy.

This installation is generously supported by Roger Dignard.
