The Next
Centennial
Strategic Plan 2026-2029
A Message to the
Currier Community

Jordana Pomeroy
Director and CEO
As we look toward our Centennial in 2029, the Currier Museum of Art honors our legacy of professional excellence while charting our bright future. We bring people together by telling stories with art. The Next Centennial ensures we will do so with even greater impact, sustainability, and reach.
Developed through a deeply collaborative process involving our staff leadership, the Board of Trustees, and our Strategic Planning Steering Committee, this strategic direction reflects our collective commitment to our founders' vision of a museum established "for the benefit and advancement of humanity."
Our Mission: We bring people together by telling stories with art.
Our Vision: To be an art museum that is essential to New Hampshire, a source of pride for New England, and a model of innovative experiences.
This is the space to describe the service and explain how customers or clients can benefit from it. It’s an opportunity to add a short description that includes relevant details, like pricing, duration, location and how to book the service.
Our Four Strategic Priorities
To sharpen our educational effectiveness and community impact, the Currier is organizing its efforts around four interlocking commitments.

One:
Sustainability
The Big Idea: Sustainability ensures the Currier can fulfill its civic mission while maintaining the flexibility to respond to community needs and new opportunities. Institutional security allows us to take creative risks and confidently invest in the cultural landscape of New Hampshire.
-
Making Every Dollar Count:
We’ve switched to a modern budgeting system where every dollar must prove it directly serves our community, backed by sharp quarterly check-ins.
-
Building to Last:
Our multi-year financial plan eliminates deficits by next year and builds a protective safety net by 2029, protecting the museum from unpredictable economic shifts.
-
More Ways to Connect:
We are designing fresh, engaging revenue streams—think bolder fundraising parties, a reimagined membership experience, and vibrant space rentals for your milestones.
-
Smart Growth:
Every financial venture we take on will be measured against a simple rule: Does this make the museum stronger, and does it bring great art to our public?
-

The Big Idea: Internal and external collaboration strengthens our collective resources, broadens civic participation, and delivers dynamic public programs that keep the museum exciting, relevant, and well-resourced.
-
One Currier Team:
We’re upgrading our technology and meeting quarterly across all departments to build a truly interconnected team that works with greater speed, harmony, and creative energy.
-
Less Effort, More Impact:
By cutting out repetitive tasks and overlapping work, we free up our energy to focus entirely on what matters most: creating unforgettable public experiences.
-
Smarter Goals, Better Value:
Instead of working in isolated pockets, our teams are sharing success milestones, like transforming temporary gallery crowds into a thriving, lifelong community of museum members.
-
Nurturing World-Class Talent:
To keep bringing you top-tier curatorial care and educational programming, we are actively prioritizing workforce stability, competitive compensation, and long-term career support for our staff.
-
Two:
Collaboration

Three:
Stewardship
The Big Idea: As stewards of world-class art, a historic architectural footprint, and an evolving community, we commit to looking beyond immediate needs. Every operational and curatorial decision is intentionally tied to protecting the public trust and expanding the museum's multi-generational relevance.
-
Securing Our Next Chapter:
We are actively welcoming 10 new major patrons annually and securing early pledges by 2027 to fuel a historic campaign for the museum’s future.
-
World-Class Exhibitions:
Expect bolder, more inclusive gallery line-ups backed by deep research. We are taking the Currier nationwide by publishing a major scholarly catalogue every year and releasing a new, accessible guide to our permanent collection.
-
Caring for Our Home:
We’ve established a dedicated capital reserve fund to handle unexpected maintenance and equipment upgrades, preserving our stunning architecture.
-
Celebrating Our Centennial:
We are designing a compelling vision for our 100th birthday, introducing data-smart outreach and upgraded perks to help our members step up to higher levels of impact.
-
A Dedicated Board:
We are modernizing board leadership with rigorous annual self-assessments and skills-based recruitment pipelines.
-

Four:
Accessibility
The Big Idea: The Currier’s cultural relevance hinges entirely on access. True hospitality means dismantling both physical and psychological barriers, honoring our founders’ intent to remain an open, inspiring sanctuary for all segments of humanity.
-
Stories That Connect:
We are reshaping our exhibitions around universal human stories, ensuring our galleries are a mirror for the diverse communities we serve.
-
Expanding Our Digital Footprint:
We are rolling out an vibrant online content strategy across all digital platforms to make our collections and events accessible to anyone, anywhere—targeting a 10% year-over-year growth in online discovery.
-
True Inclusion for All:
We are designing a fully accessible museum experience, overhauling our physical building wayfinding, and adding new ADA-compliant tools like ASL and tactile art interactions.
-
Art as a Lifelong Tool:
By partnering with local educators and wellness leaders, we are expanding multilingual school programs that link arts to STEM, and introducing tailored creative wellness classes to foster holistic healing through art.
