PEPE MAR:

Dream House

Bold colors. Unexpected connections. A splash of Miami sunshine.

Continuing Mar’s ongoing engagement with museum collections, Dream House is the first New England presentation of the Mexico-born, Miami-based artist whose exuberant works synthesize thrift store aesthetics, queer culture, science fiction, and fashion.

Step into a

Kaleidoscopic Sanctuary

Step away from the ordinary and immerse yourself in Dream House, a lush, visual sanctuary created specifically for the Currier Museum of Art. Blurring the boundaries between fine art, interior design, and immersive theater, this multi-sensory exhibition transforms the gallery into a vivid, tropical refuge.

Pepe Mar: Dream House is generously supported by Dr. Emily Leff, Pamela A. Harvey, M. Christine Dwyer and Michael Huxtable, Susan and John Lynch, and the Kimon & Anne Zachos Exhibition Fund.

Meet

PEPE MAR

Born in Reynosa, Mexico, and based in Miami, Pepe Mar creates art driven by the kinetic energy, Latin rhythms, and tropical flora of his surroundings. Trained at the California College of the Arts (BFA) and Florida International University (MFA), Mar has spent decades mastering the art of collage and assemblage, drawing inspiration from global history, queer identity, and consumer culture.

Mar acts as an artistic "bowerbird," constantly gathering raw materials—from thrift-store finds, fabric scraps, and ethnographic art books to museum collection objects. By recombining these disparate elements, he constructs elaborate visual worlds that subvert traditional classifications. His work has been celebrated in major museum solo shows and public collections across the country, including the Perez Art Museum Miami, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and the High Museum in Atlanta.
