The Continuum
of Progress

Director and CEO

As I look back on the 2025 fiscal year, I am struck by the idea of the museum as a living, evolving entity. Otherwise, as writer Adam Gopnik noted, museums risk turning into mausoleums. In our galleries, we often see art as a finished product, but as an institution, we are always in a state of becoming. The milestones of this past year are not merely points on a timeline; they are part of a continuum of growth that flows from our history into our future.

  • This year, our focus has been on the harmony of working from the inside out and the outside in. We recognize that to serve our public effectively, we must first ensure our internal foundation is resilient.

    • Institutional Stewardship: We’ve modernized the Currier by upgrading mechanical systems and creating a working environment where staff can collaborate and innovate.

    • Disciplined Growth: By rethinking our physical and administrative spaces, we’ve built a more sustainable foundation for the years ahead. We’re adhering to a transparent budget and giving the endowment room to grow.

    • Community Focus: We’re strengthening the ways we engage with loyal patrons and new, with a focus on accessibility, relevance, and stewardship. We’re not happy until you’re happy!

    The Strategic Flow

Projects in a museum rarely begin and end within a single fiscal calendar. Instead, they flow over years, gaining momentum as they move from concept to reality. This year marked a pivotal transition as we launched the planning for our new 3-year strategic plan. By centering our work in sustainability, collaboration, stewardship, and accessibility, we’re building a museum that’s resilient, connected, and welcoming.

    Impact Across the State

Accessibility has matured from a concept into a tangible, statewide presence. This year we reached beyond our walls further than ever:

    • Community Integration: From the expansion of our ArtLab initiatives to the evolution of the Art for Vets program, we are moving beyond our walls to meet our community where they are.

    • The Visitor Experience: Within the museum, we are beginning to transform our galleries into vibrant spaces for dialogue, proving that every corner of the Currier can be a site for inspiration.

You and the Currier form one of the museum’s many important relationships. We are building many such partnerships with individuals, companies, and other nonprofits across New Hampshire, ensuring that the Currier remains a source of pride for New England.

Thank you for your continuing support, which plays a meaningful role in shaping the Currier’s next century.

    With warmest thanks,

A letter from
the board president

Thomas Silvia

President, Board of Trustees

In July 2025, I stepped into the role of Board President after many years as a Trustee. I am excited for the future of the Currier and its new vision: To be an art museum that is essential to New Hampshire, a source of pride for New England, and a model of innovative experiences.

To us, being essential to New Hampshire means more than just having a building full of art—it’s about making sure that art actually reaches our neighbors and enriches their lives. We want to be a source of pride for all of New England, growing into a landmark that the entire region feels connected to.

This vision comes from nearly a year of work behind the scenes to shape a bold strategic plan for the Currier. Collaboration at every level of the museum went into this important living document. It guides our next steps, both internally and externally, to have an even greater impact on the community.

What continues to resonate with me is that there is no other institution like the Currier in New Hampshire. We have an intense responsibility to be stewards of art, and to share that art with Granite State residents and beyond. In the pages that follow, you will see examples of this leadership in action and meet supporters who make it all possible.

Generosity is the fuel of the Currier. Donors and sponsors allow us to change lives as a world-class art museum in Manchester, New Hampshire. For example, visionary support from Swim with a Mission allows the Currier to provide its pioneering Art for Vets program, which offers a safe environment for connection and creativity.

Impact like that happens every day, both inside the museum walls and beyond. I look forward to serving this essential cultural organization and partnering with the museum’s many supporters to bring its mission to life.
