Hannah Burr: Attendant

February 12, 2012

Attendant was a collaborative, single-day performance and art installation by Boston-based artist Hannah Burr. Museum staff and docents volunteered to work with Burr and follow her instructions to place either a block or colored rectangular mark for every instance of a specified observation, such as hearing laughter or making eye contact, at a set location and time period. Volunteers took on an unexpected artistic authority as they placed marks, which accumulated to create sculpture-like forms and wall drawings. The resulting installations gave visual form to fleeting moments and invited visitors to reconsider the often overlooked aspects of our shared environment.
