Fancy Footwork: Images of Dancers from the Currier’s Collection
February 4, 2016 - June 5, 2016
Presented in conjunction with the fancy footwear on view in Killer Heels: The Art of the High Heeled Shoe, this focus exhibition features depictions of nimble performers of stage and screen from the Currier’s collection. Like the shoes in Killer Heels, the photographs on view display imaginative approaches to showing the body in motion, evolving ideals of gender and celebrity, and artistic experimentation. Along with a selection of other media, the photographs skillfully reveal the agile dynamism of dancing bodies, the understated elegance of dancers in repose and the magnetism of legendary performers.
