In 2015, Easter Seals and the Currier Museum of Art partnered in a unique way to engage participants with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias through art engagement. Three times each month, participants completed an art project at Easter Seals with the Currier’s Outreach Coordinator, Corie Lyford, and once each month they would visit the Currier to look at and talk about art with loved ones. The opportunity for consistent expressive art therapy has helped to settle emotional anxieties that plague those suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia, relief from other difficult behaviors, times of peace separated from depressive symptoms and moments of clarity not seen with any other form of treatment.

Through artworks, images and quotes on display in the Community Gallery we hope visitors will gain an appreciation for the beauty that lies within the process of art-making and the importance of the experiences that can come from that.

This program is supported by the Bruce and Rose Marie McColl Family, RiverStone Resources LLC, the New Hampshire Council on the Arts and the Cogswell Benevolent Trust.
